DALLCON Supports Bluelight Disco 2022 At The Dalwallinu Rec Centre
Art, music, and community have a special way of uniting people from different cultures. This is especially true when it comes to the Bluelight Disco. Beginning in Melbourne back in 1976, these playful nights are still creating cherished memories today – giving young ones everywhere an opportunity to show off their creative flair. The annual event is headed by the Dalwallinu Police in partnership with Dalwallinu High School Parent and Carers Association.
Bluelight Disco is an Australian treasure that brings the youth and police together in a relaxed yet supervised environment. These interactions clear any misunderstandings that often stem from a lack of knowledge and direct communication. A child’s upbringing is often based on how comfortable they are in their interactions with law enforcement. Providing them with the chance to form positive opinions of police officers, even if it’s only a momentary glimpse during childhood, can have lasting effects that lead to better decision-making throughout life. What a fantastic thing!
DALLCON recently supported the Bluelight Disco that was hosted at the Dalwallinu Recreation Centre. Our Police and fully trained volunteers contribute many hours to help run these events. It goes beyond the fun, interaction and music. It is about giving children, parents, and carers of the community a chance to have a great time!
The event was held on 30 November 2022 from 3:30 PM to 5 PM for kids aged 5 and below and from 5 PM to 6:30 PM for 6 to 12-year-olds. It provided a significant opportunity for children and parents in the area to come together in a safe environment and enjoy some fun activities, music, entertainment, and lovely food.
The presence of police officers also served as an additional safety measure while providing informal mentorship opportunities. Experienced medical staff also were on hand should any health issues arise during the course of the evening – ensuring everyone stayed safe at all times. Parents and carers also joined in on the fun by getting the chance to enjoy with their children, with a free sausage sizzle and snacks and non-alcoholic drinks available to purchase.
